Who we are
Philemon Farm Ltd is a trailblazing agribusiness based in Rwanda, leading the adoption of Juncao Technology an innovative green solution originally developed in China. By utilizing a hybrid of 36 fast-growing, high-protein grass species known as Juncao grass, we’re tackling food insecurity, animal feed shortages, soil erosion, and environmental degradation, all at once.
We’ve trained over 500 farmers, distributed thousands of Juncao cuttings, and empowered communities across Rwanda and East Africa with practical skills in mushroom cultivation, animal feed production, and sustainable land use. From mountainous slopes to rural villages, we’re helping farmers grow more, feed better, and protect their land.
What is Juncao Technology
Juncao means “mushroom grass” in Chinese. This transformative technology replaces wood with fast-growing grass to grow mushrooms—preserving forests while increasing the food supply. But at Philemon Farm, we go further. Juncao grass becomes:
Nutritious livestock feed, rich in protein (up to 18%);
A solution to soil erosion on slopes and degraded land;
Raw material for eco-friendly charcoal that reduces deforestation.
Juncao grass grows up to 6 meters tall, yields up to 180 tons/ha/year, thrives in poor soils with little water, and supports a circular economy model that benefits people, animals, and the planet
